One of my clients is a roofer and they are offering solar panel installation. This makes a lot sense to me. Who better to be messing around with your roof than a roofer. I know the workmanship varies among roofers so what is the difference of hiring a solar power installer over a roofer? I think the first question you should be asking yourself is “What condition is your roof currently”? If it is a new roof I wouldn’t worry. However, if you are deciding out of the blue that you want to put solar panels up on your roof, should you consider updating your roof first especially if it is already 15 or 20 years old?
If you throw solar panels on an old roof you may need to have your roof repaired soon and you would have to have the solar panels disassembled to get at the repair work. It seems to me that your roof is the most important part of your house so I would be causious about how you approach this. I know that is a double whammy to think about in terms of cost.
Whether it is a flat foam roof or pitched tile you may want to seriously consider other upgrades and repairs to help your new solar panel installation to run efficiently and without issue. Maybe consider installing a radiant barrier.
